BUFFALO, N.Y. (9-8-2022) - After a heart breaking finish to the 2021-2022 season, The Buffalo Bills will begin what many are calling their "revenge tour" against the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams in the NFL season opener at 8:20 ET (NBC).
Currently, the odds favor quarterback Josh Allen's squad with -135. Bettors took the Bills because many people are confident in Josh Allen and assume he's ehaded for NFL MVP. Fans will also get a look at how new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will fill the hole Brian Daboll left behind.
In the offseason, the Bills signed two-time Super Bowl winning linebacker Von Miller to a six-year, $120 million contract and drafted cornerback Kair Elam in the first round of the 2022 draft. however, the Bills will be without their no. 1 cornerback Tre'Davious White, which many fear could be their downfall in this game.
According to USA Today, the Bills finished top-five in scoring offensive (third-best with 28.4 points per game) and scoring defense (best with 17.0 points allowed per game). The Rams averaged 372.1 yards per game on offense last season, which ranked them ninth in the NFL. On the defensive side of the ball, they ranked 17th, giving up 344.9 yards per game.
However, fans also need to remember that Miller wasn't the only reason the Rams won the Super Bowl. Quarterback Matthew Stafford had his best season yet, throwing 4886 yards, 41 touchdowns and a 67.2 completion percentage. And while Stafford did undergo an off-season elbow procedure but he said he feels better than he did last year, according to Adam Schefter. Stafford's no. 1 man Cooper Kupp also had one of the best seasons for a receiver in NFL history.
In addition to their impressive offense, the rams also have some of the biggest names in football in DT Aaron Donald CB and Jalen Ramsey. With the Rams' experience and home field advantage, it could lean toward the Super Bowl champions showing they're ready to go back to back. For the Bills to get the win, the new offensive line will need to handle Donald and the Rams defensive line and on offense, they will need to find a way to get past Ramsey and the secondary. The Bills secondary will have to limit Kupp and new addition Allen Robinson, who had a down-year but will look to bounce back.
Prediction: Rams. This game is set up to be a close one. However, because they are the Super Bowl champions and have kept a majority of their key players the Rams are capable of upseting the Bills and the hype set up for them.
