BUFFALO, NY (10-28-2022) - The Buffalo Bills return from their bye week to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football in Orchard Park and hope to add to their undefeated streak against the cheese heads in Western New York.
The Bills enter this game as 11 point favorites, making Packers future hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers a double-digit underdog for the first time in his 17-year career. The Bills also have a 6-0 record against the Packers at home. Their last matchup resulted in a 22-0 Green Bay win at Lambeau Field.
Since then both teams have gone through changes. The Bills evolved into one of the NFL's elite teams on both offense and defense; the Packers descended into mediocrity, suffering multiple playoff losses.
The Bills are coming off a 24-20 win against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium while the Packers are coming off a 23-21 loss to the Washington Commanders at
FedEx Field. Bills quarterback Josh Allen completed 27 out of 40 for 329 yards and three touchdowns. Rodgers completed 23 out of 35 for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Allen's main guy Stefon Diggs remains hot, averaging 8.2 rec/game, 109.3 YPG, and collected six touchdowns. His matchup with Packers CB Jaire Alexander will be a highly anticipated one as he held QBs to an 80.1 rating and allowed one touchdown in six games.
Alexander is part of a Packers secondary that allowed a 69 completion percentage, a 95 passer rating, six touchdowns and two interceptions. However, they never faced a receiving corp like Diggs, Gabriel Davis, Dawson Knox and Isaiah McKenzie.
The o-line needs to continue protecting Allen as so far they have allowed 9 sacks and a 20.6 pressure rating. They also have to be aware of Allen's running abilities as he averaged 5.5 YPC, 42.8 YPG and 2 touchdowns.
The Bills defense will be the key to stopping the Packers and it could be easier said than done. This year, Rodgers lost his no. 1 supporter in reciever Davante Adams. To make matters worse, his replacement Allen Lazard will most likley be out with a shoulder injury he sustained against Washington. His ground support Aaron Jones put up solid numbers so the front seven will have to keep him from dominating the game clock.
The Bills secondary may be without superstar CB Tre'Davious White, but Kaiir Elam, Dane Jackson, Taron Johnson and Christian Benford helped this team lead the league in interceptions with 10. Von Miller will also need to repeat his performance against Patrick Mahomes and make big stops on defense.
This game will depend on how the Bills can handle the Packers run game and dominate the time of posession. The defense is capable of putting pressure and restricting this Packers offense that is on the decline.
Prediction: Bills win 35-10
